MED102 Essentials of Medical Terminology
This course is an exploration of the systems of the human body, including the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and urinary systems, as well as reproductive, integumentary, blood/lymph, endocrine and nervous systems and how they relate to each other. In addition, some of the most common diseases and disorders affecting these systems and the treatments for them are discussed.
MED109 Human Diseases
This course will present the study of human diseases, processes that cause disease, and ways in which disease manifests as symptoms, signs, physical findings, and laboratory findings for each of the body systems. This course offers an introduction to human diseases, a study of the mechanism of disease, information on neoplasms, insight into inflammation and infection, and then moves into common diseases and disorders of body systems. These body systems are the musculoskeletal, blood and blood-forming organs, cardiovascular, respiratory, lymphatic, digestive, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas, urinary, endocrine, nervous, eye and ear, reproductive, integumentary, genetic and developmental, childhood, and mental health.
PHM103 Pharmacy Practice I
This course and Pharmacy Practice II provide inclusive training in the technical procedures for preparing and dispensing drugs in the hospital and retail settings under supervision of a registered pharmacist. This course prepares students to have a working knowledge of basic pharmacology and the duties and responsibilities of a pharmacy technician, including law and ethical guidelines for practice. Topics include classifications of drugs; routes of administration, dosage forms, and drug doses; anatomy and physiology of the human body; essential functions relating to inventory control and purchasing; procedures and techniques relating to aseptic technique, compounding, and parenteral dosage preparation; trade and generic names of drugs and abbreviations used in pharmacy practice; and the procedures and operations relating to the manufacturing, packaging, and labeling of drugs.
PHM104 Pharmacy Practice II
This course, along with Pharmacy Practice I, prepares students to have a working knowledge of basic pharmacology and the duties and responsibilities of a pharmacy technician, including law and ethical guidelines for practice. Topics include classifications of drugs; routes of administration, dosage forms, and drug doses; anatomy and physiology of the human body; essential functions relating to inventory control and purchasing; procedures and techniques relating to aseptic technique, compounding, and parenteral dosage preparation; trade and generic names of drugs and abbreviations used in pharmacy practice; and the procedures and operations relating to the manufacturing, packaging, and labeling of drugs.
